Since 1998, PKK, in conjunction with the Project Friendship Foundation, has had a great impact on the youth of South Metro Atlanta. Our youth programs focused on STEM, the arts, mentoring, and health awareness, have become a pillar of the Atlanta community. Scholarship remains the key pillar of the chapter and year-round fundraising serves as the cornerstone for providing scholarship dollars. Throughout the chapter’s rich history, we have awarded more than $300,000 in scholarships to graduating high school seniors.
PKK Talent Hunt has become a signature event not only in our chapter but the Fraternity and the community. PKK Talent Hunt has produced contestants such as Genesis Moore and Chiniah Chambers who both placed in the top 10 on American Idol in 2009 and 2020 respectively. Our most notable contestant is Avery Dixon who placed second in American Got Talent: All Stars’. PKK has given out over $300K in awards and prizes.
This free event was created to connect high school senior football players to scholarship opportunities from colleges and universities seeking to recruit football players to their institutions. Although Georgia is one of the more talent rich high school football states, more than 1,500 football playing seniors are left without collegiate scholarship offers annually due to the lack of exposure and/or resources. Since the inception of this program more than 5000 kids have had the opportunity to pursue their dreams while continuing their education. This program has yielded over 1 million dollars through donations, fundraising and scholarships.
The purpose of our Top Dawg Robotics Team is to focus on mentoring young boys using STEM programs in partnership with First and Lego League and to provide a Robotics Team for our service area. Through hard work and dedication, the program has yielded invites from across the country to compete and participate in STEM competitions. One of our most notable accomplishments was an invite to show off their skills at our National Conclave in Charlette North Carolina in 2022.
